About The Work

I am an Iranian American poet from Texas, and my work studies both infrastructures of power and ecological connection. As a person of mixed heritage, I understand that “commodity” describes something torn out of context and relationship, and instead, reshown as whole. These poems describe refineries, domestic warfare, flooding alongside roseate spoonbills, the Milky Way, and deep love. When I look at my work, I see a study of cause and effect or a study of connection—the flooding in a poem echoing a psychic osmosis, echoing another kind of disaster—the floods as much literal as emotional and political.

I craft work that reveals us in our interdependence and fullness. This is my way of healing the wound of separation—maybe inside us, but also between our bodies and other bodies.
